A Solemn Holiday Promise

Just before each school term break
I set my mind with zeal
To fully wrap up new work learnt
Start a fresh slate for a new beginning
Yet time soars in a blink of an eye
I find myself left fazed
Ruefully vowing to pull socks up
Zest spurs for but twinkle
Bounteous attempts flop miserably
As pursuits for fun obscure the path ahead

With this term break dawning
The cycle of fervour begins again
Interests, they come and go
But just for this season
I promise to block them out
To press on and persevere
Dodging from all temptations
The road ahead though arduous
The light at the end beckons
Penetrating through the darkness
