the fine line between pessimism and facing reality.

There will be times on this journey
All you'll see is darkness

Out there somewhere daylight finds you
If you keep believing

those brown earnest eyes,
coupled with that silent demeanour,
never condemning, always accepting.
grudges never held, with a heart willing to forgive.
there's a warmth whenever you brush past,
a comfort as you settle down beside.
fondling those floppy ears,
caressing the fur coat turned coarse with age,
my troubles, they just disappear.
placing that greyed paw in my hand,
that's the best friendship anyone could receive.

aging is an inevitable process - an ominous prognosis. it's a painful reminder that you can't keep hanging on. things change, memories fade. the bottom line - you have to let go. but not now... please?
how do you fight back those tears and put on that facade of strength?
i wish you could promise that you'll stay strong for me.. till i finish this lap.. i promise to be strong for you then.
but things don't work that way. it's out of my league.
walking, stumbling on these shadowfeet
toward home, a land that i've never seen
