sticks and stones may break my bones.

the world is entitled to its opinions but not all of them matter.

"Cold words freeze people, and hot words scorch them,
and bitter words make them bitter, and wrathful words make them wrathful.
Kind words also produce their own image on men's souls;
and a beautiful image it is. They soothe, quiet, and comfort the hearer."
- Blaise Pascal

we've often been told to ignore nasty comments, brush them aside as if they were never uttered. you can't un-say statements you've blurted out, un-hear the news that's travelled through your ears. if it were that easy, the world would be retracting and muting every minute, or millisecond for that matter.

they may not matter, but they still hurt. then again, it shouldn't hurt if it doesn't matter. right? wounds and physical scars they show what you've been through. people, in general, keep a safe distance from a bandaged foot or arm in a sling, lest they be accused of intentionally adding another bandage to the existing artwork. but few take into consideration the stinging wounds, raw and seething from emotional hurt. no one cares if you're nursing a wounded ego, it's the art of nil eye contact which we've come to master so well - avoid the eyes that give away the pain. it comes in real handy, doesn't it?

the number of moronic fools around scares me. it's amazing how tactless, unfeeling and pure oblivious people are. granted, i do make occasional statements that are uncalled for, merely in jest. but seriously, we're better off planting such idiots under coconut trees for some of these fruits to knock some sense into them.

hurtful words are nothing but a bunch of letters,
improperly strung together by some who failed to master the alphabet.
