cooking up a storm in a coffee cup.

i remember watching a show where two old friends got together after a long time, and one found that the other, who used to drink coffee with milk and sugar had made a switch to pure black. when questioned about its bitterness, his reply was "喝苦就惯了". taste buds can be tweaked indeed. beyond the additives like salt and sugar in daily food and drink, lies a beautiful flavour of food that should be savoured. seasoning masks the taste, makes it addictive and drives your taste buds into thinking that bland food is utterly unacceptable. but when you train your tongue to taste again, to find the beauty in the natural flavours, that's when you really enjoy the food before you. of course underlying that phrase, also lies a hidden double meaning, which i find very true as well. we are creatures of habit, and we get used to things after a while. while we might be spoilt with shelter, one eventually toughens up when forced to endure in hardship, a heavy drizzle no longer wavers you after you've been through thunder and lightning.

that being said, your life is all about your perception. you could have the worst imaginable life ever, but if all you see is sunshine and rainbows, nothing anyone says will change your view on it. you could have the best life that everyone around you envies, but if you don't see the good in it, you'll never appreciate the blessings you have.. there are no perfect sunny days 365 days a year, there are bound to be storms.. but if you're going to spend sunny days worrying about the stormy days, you aren't ever going to appreciate the beauty of the sun.

you could be the tree that snaps in the heavy rain
or the strong-standing one that offers shelter.
