"set a goal to achieve something that is so big, so exhilarating
that it excites you and scares you at the same time"
to add on to my goosebumps, this was the title of the 2017 NSGC president's address. one year on, i daresay it's a truly good reminder to keep pressing on, to keep soaring, for this cause. after all, there is only so low a valley can go, at some point it will have to go back up.
i can only imagine the oomph in these closing words. to title a speech, and to expound on it, intertwining a personal narrative with the love of the profession and purpose of it, and finally ending off with the same inspirational title as the final phrase. wow.
Be brave. The more you practice the better you get.
Define courage for yourself. Your courage isn't the same as someone else's.
Don't compare yourself to others. Rather, stretch yourself in ways that are appropriate for you.
Overcoming even a minor obstacle can be addictive and can drive you to explore new ways of being courageous.
Start small. Dream big. Be your own kind of brave.
And when you feel your heart beating quickly and your head starting to spin, that means something really incredible is about to happen.
So take a deep breath, plant your feet firmly on the ground,
look your challenge straight in the eye, and do something that scares you.
- Mary E. Freivogel
being apart from the hustle and bustle of the reality sometimes makes me forget. i smile a little inside everytime i talk about it, that's passion isn't it? but i also cringe as a little part of hope also breaks off each time; it's a pleasant reminder of the purpose, yet so surreal because that's not what it is in reality. this season of waiting feels prolonged, i can only wait.
it scares me to wait. it scares me that i will forget.
be brave. the more you practice waiting the better you get.
define courage as the ability to wait patiently. my courage isn't the same as someone else's.
don't compare me to others. i'm being stretched in a way that i will soar just a stretched rubberband shoots fiercely across the room to skilfully hit its target.
overcoming even a minor obstacle to getting even one small step close is kind of addictive and does drive me to explore new ways of being courageous in waiting.
start small. dream big. i'm my own kind of brave.
i take a deep breath, standing firm to what i believe in,
i look at this waiting game ahead,
and wait patiently.
